Two Months!

Yesterday was Nicholas's 2nd Month Birthday. Can you believe how much he has changed?

Nicholas is now extremely interactive and loves to study the faces of people around him. He will often grin and coo at us and has started to verbalize, meaning he grunts at us in response when we speak to him.

In the last couple of days he has started to attempt crawling. He is able to hold his head and neck steady and seems determined to move on as quickly as possible to the next stage. Pushing himself off the floor and using his hands to grasp and pull and his feet to dig in and push, he is actually able to move. Albeit a very, very short distance of just a few inches. And that only after a great deal of effort. He is also trying very, very hard to roll over from his tummy to his back, but thus far has not been successful. Which is a great source of frustration to him!

This past week he started drooling copious amounts. It's like someone turned on the faucet in his mouth. On Friday evening I put my (just washed!) finger into his mouth to feel. There is a very small, sharp point on his lower jaw. He is probably starting the teething process. Which means a first tooth could pop out today, or he could drool and chew on things for months before it manages to come out. No way of knowing.

We have also had some difficulty with his formula. Starting last week we began transferring him from the US formula to the Swiss formula. The first formula we tried resulted in screaming, projectile spit up and explosive, indescribably foul dirty diapers. We then tried a second Swiss formula, which was better but still not as good. For about 30-45 minutes after eating he is fussy and gassy, but then gets better.

After discussing it with our Swiss pediatrician we made the decision to go back on the US formula. We'd rather not do formula experimentations on Nicholas when we know a formula that works very well for him. Fortunately, not only do we travel back and forth to the US frequently, but we know other people who do as well. (We are getting another supply of formula later today from someone who is flying in from New York.) It will take a lot of planning, but we will make it work for as long as he needs it.
