We've been receiving a lot of questions about the floor quilt and it's purpose. So here it is, in all it's glory!
The theory behind the quilt is that infants need a variety of stimulations, impacting all five senses, to develop their brains. They receive these stimulations through being held, being sung to, putting (safe) items in their mouths and on and on.The floor quilt combines a large variety of textures, colors and shapes into one 50 x 50 inch square area so that when Nicholas is having the all-important Tummy-Time to develop his neck and back muscles, he can lie on the floor quilt and get multiple sensations all in one area. (Tummy time is also important to get babies off of their backs, where they must sleep for safety reasons, and hopefully prevent Flat-Head Syndrome!)
The quilt is made primarily through things my mother had around the house, scraps of fabric leftover from other projects. There are a couple of items incorporated that were new baby gifts and used to make the quilt extra special.
It's a crazy conglomeration, but has it's own strange beauty!
