Retro Baby Booties

Buying from Etsy.com can be a hit or miss proposition, as evidenced by the polar fleece hat for infants ages 0-6 months which could possibly fit Nicholas when he is a toddler, but is rather ridiculous at the moment.

But sometimes Etsy provides you with exactly what you need.

Most babies are very good at kicking off anything you happen to put on their feet. But my mother remembered a type of booty you were once able to buy in dime stores and pharmacies. Popular in the 1960's and 1970's, my mother purchased these booties for all of her babies. She even kept a pair which we always used for our dolls. Unfortunately, the one pair she kept were obviously for little girls.

However, I started looking through the Etsy listings and eventually ran across a pattern for the exact same booties my mother remembers. After purchasing the pattern and receiving it via e-mail, my mother set to work. Here are the results:

These booties stay on until you decide to take them off. Hooray! She's going to make a bunch in a couple of sizes.

If interested and inclined towards sewing, the pattern can be found here.
