Happy Birthday, Nicholas!

Nicholas is 1 today! The past year has flown by in whirl of laughter, love and, at times, sheer exhaustion!

I cannot believe how much Nicholas has grown and how far his development has come. He is no longer a baby, but is now a little boy and has fully entered into Toddlerhood.

His language skills are progressing and he has a constant babble of meaningless sounds that mean he is practicing all the new words he will one day say. But he is ahead of schedule in that he already uses some words with meaning. He knows "up," "Mama," and "again." And he is working on "Daddy." He can say it, but doesn't always seem to know who or what "Daddy" means.

He got a bit of a late start in the Finger Food Arena, declining most finger foods until 10 months old as he found it much easier for me to spoon the food into his mouth. But he has now made up for it. He eats along side us, nibbling at whatever we happen to be eating. The only foods still off limits are honey and peanut butter. Although now that he is a year old, we should be able to start that any time. In small quantities, of course, until we know if he has a reaction to them!

Today we are going back to the Kinderspital (Children's Hospital) for another check of his kidney function. At 6 months it had shown improvement, so we have our fingers crossed that the obstruction has resolved itself.

Because of the hospital visit and he fact he is unlikely to be in a great mood, and because Auntie Kara is arriving for a visit on Wednesday, we are delaying the birthday celebration one day.

It may take us a while to post additional photos. I generally use the laptop for all my computing. But unfortunately Nicholas got ahold of the laptop and dropped it. The fall destroyed the hard drive. I will post when I am able.
